Home for me has always been Birmingham. I remember being little and closing my eyes
in the car. Just by the motion of the turns, I could tell the street we were on and the buildings we were passing.
I
know Birmingham. I know the people, the streets, the traditions.
Birmingham has been home even through college. I attended Samford
University. A small university nestled in a suburb of the city and about 25 minutes from my childhood home. This short distance made seeing my family a weekly experience.
During my four years at Samford, I gained a second family in
my friends. These people are the ones who have gotten me through the “ups and
downs” of life. My "families" are the souls that refresh me, encourage me and motivate me.
My love lives deep in the people of Birmingham. That town holds everything I have in this world.
“So where does wanderlust come in?”
Simple.
I love to
discover.
I crave new places. Interesting people. Quirky towns. And
off beaten paths.
One of my favorite quotes says it best:
“Don’t ask yourself what the world needs; ask yourself what
makes you come alive. And then go and do that. Because what this world needs
are people who have come alive”. –Harold Whitman
My heart comes alive when I am exploring.
That exploration could be a new town, a strange cuisine, or someone's past.
It doesn't matter as long as I learn from it.
I have been given an incredible opportunity. Thanks to the
support, love, and friendship from my friends and family back home, I was able
to land a job as a Traveling Leadership Consultant (TLC) for Zeta Tau Alpha
Fraternity. For the next year, I will get to give back and serve an
organization and sisterhood that has molded me into the person I am today. I
will travel the United States and build relationships with women that will have
no idea the impact they will make on my life.
I will get to travel.
I will get to explore.
I will get to meet interesting, beautiful, talented and
different people.
I will get to grow.
And hopefully, this whole adventure will be a cure for wanderlust.
